One of the most amazing, yet simple cosmetic products for men, is body powder, or sometimes referred to as talc (though many of the powders today are made with corn starch).
A body powder is going to absorb moisture, prevent chaffing, and relieve itching, and soothe any skin irritation you might have–it’s really great stuff, and it’s something all men on-the-go should be using, especially if you live or work in a hot and humid climate.
Sprinkle a little powder in your pants, and you’ll find that it will keep your skin fresh, smooth, and smelling good. And for you guys that are single, this is a must have before you go out on date night, especially if you’re expecting any sort of romantic interlude; you’ll really peak the interest of your date with private parts that smell of seduction…
And, if you’re a guy that’s using a baby powder by chance, then it’s time for you to graduate to the big boy powders–there’s some really good stuff on the market now. One of my favorites is Balla Powder.
Anti Monkey Butt Powder
This brand of powder is ideal for for butt busting activities such as truck driving, motorcycling, bicycling, horse back riding, and extreme sports. It provides temporary relief from itching and soreness related to chaffing.
The main ingredients are talc powder, calamine powder (for anti-itching/anti-chaffing), and fragrance. The fragrance is said to be a floral scent (an odd choice for a product primarily marketed to men I think).
I’ve never tried this powder, but compared to some of the other powders on the market, I think this is a generic brand, nonetheless, a great product, based on many 5-star customer ratings.
Anti Monkey Butt Anti Friction Powder retails for $7.49 on Amazon; shipping is free for Amazon Prime members.
Balla Powder is marketed primarily for use on your balls–yes, that’s right, your scrotal sac. However, it’s really an all-over powder, and can be used anywhere…Balla just markets it as a ball powder I think to get more attention and customers.
The main ingredients are talc and zinc–the powder is ultra fine and smooth so it glides well onto the body. Balla offers the product in the original scent, an unscented formula, and get this, a tingle formula! Yes, you can make your balls tingle with talc. I have tried the tingle formula and it does feel good, but the tingle doesn’t last that long. Today, I just use the original formula.
I love the smell of the original formula, it’s a cool, masculine scent–perfect for a guy, and it really does keep your jewels dry and ultra smooth. For any guy hoping to get a little action on date night, I’d highly recommend you get some of this stuff; you’re date will be pleasantly surprised and aroused.
Balla Powder retails for $13.45 on Amazon; shipping is free for Amazon Prime members.
Caswell-Massey – Sandalwood Talc
This finely textured Italian talc is exotically scented with the sandalwood scent. The only ingredients in this powder are the talc itself and the sandalwood fragrance.
You’ll find that this is another highly-rated, 5-star body powder out there. Some men report that the scent is too pronounced, but there are others who also say that it’s just right and not too strong.
Personally, I have not tried this powder, but would love to because I do like the exotic smell of sandalwood.
Caswell-Massey – Sandalwood Talc retails for $14 on Amazon; shipping is free for Amazon Prime members.
This is basically the talc the barbershop uses–it’s your grandfather’s talc (not a bad thing, just different), but I’m not sure the scent is as modern as many of the up-and-coming metrosexuals would prefer. I would suspect that the target audience for this type of talc skews 50+.
This is an all-over talc, so can be used all over your body. Key ingredients include Talc, Zinc Stearate, Fragrance, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Geraniol, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene, Linalool, Zinc Oxide. The most obvious thing about the ingredients, is there is so many of them, and that makes me wonder if this really is the best for skin (especially if you’re looking for something that’s going to help with any skin irritation).
However, Clubman Pinaud does have a strong following, and there’s no shortage of high-praise among die-hard loyalists.
Clubman Pinaud Talc retails for $6.65 on Amazon; shipping is free for Amazon Prime members.
Gold Bond Ultimate Comfort Body Powder
Gold Bond has really changed a lot over recent years–it’s not the same company with those corny jock-itch commercials. They really have stepped up their marketing and product awareness to reach a broader audience.
I think a lot of men were turned off by those commercials in the 80s (thinking that it was only a jock-itch product, when in reality, Gold Bond is no different than some of the other powders, in that it’s an “all-over” powder that can be used anywhere to prevent chaffing and skin irritation while absorbing moisture.
I never had a chance to smell the Gold Bond powder of the 80s (that was marketed for jock itch), but the new stuff they are making now in the white bottle smells wonderful. It’s a fresh, clean scent that’s a bit alluring I think.
This is a talc-free formula, so no talc–it’s all finely textured corn starch. However, I will say that even finely textured corn starch doesn’t feel as smooth as talc to me (and perhaps I just haven’t felt the right kind of cornstarch powder).
This is a great body powder though–can be used all over, works well, rubs on smooth, and smells great. The scent is the best thing going for this product–it truly is unique, and something your significant other will notice.
Gold Bond Ultimate Comfort Body Powder retails for $8.60 on Amazon; shipping is free for Amazon Prime.
Gold Bond Medicated Body Powder
There are two active ingredients in this powder that make it special: menthol (anti-itch) and zinc oxide (skin protectant).
This medicated powder is quite popular and known to relieve discomfort from minor cuts, sunburn, insect bites, scrapes, prickly heat, minor burns, rashes, minor skin irritations, and will even dry oozing of poison ivy, oak, and sumac.
Gold Bond Medicated Body Powder retails for $5.28 on Amazon.
Jack Black Dry Down Friction-Free Powder
Jack Black is a premium skin care line for men, and one of two men’s skin care lines that’s making body powder for men (the other is Matte for Men, shown further down).
Jack Black Dry Down Friction-Free Powder is an all over powder, like most other powders, designed to minimize chaffing, absorb moisture, and relieve any discomfort from skin irritation (and this formula does that all naturally).
This powder is a talc-free formula made from ultra-fine pure cornstarch and certified organic cucumber, green tea, and lavender. There are no paragons, fragrance, or colorants.
I have not tried this product, but the reviews are somewhat mixed on this. Some men love it and love the smell, and then there are some guys that like the powder, but don’t like the smell. I’m usually on the fence when it comes to certain organic scents. I’d have to smell this before I buy it…nonetheless, Jack Black is a wonderful and well-known men’s skin care line, so I don’t doubt that it’s a great powder…
Jack Black Dry Down Friction-Free Powder retails for $18 on Amazon; shipping is free for Amazon Prime members.
Jewel Dust is one of the newest talc powders to come to market–the company first introduced it’s product in 2007. Similar to Balla, Jewel Dust has taken a “make your balls smell good to get some” approach in its marketing strategy (which I think is very smart). More guys need to be using body powder anyway, they just don’t know it, and well, sex sells…
Even though male genitalia plays a large part in their marketing, this is an all-over powder that can be used anywhere on the body to absorb moisture, fight odor, relieve itching, and prevent chaffing.
Jewel Dust uses cosmetic grade talc that’s ultra fine and smooth. The ingredient list includes talc, zinc oxide, and fragrance. Zinc oxide is a skin protectant, used to fight oder and prevent itching. The fragrance is a masculine scent, though I’m not sure what that exactly means (which they described that on their website, as I have not tried the product).
Jewel Dust retails for $11.99 on Amazon.
Matte for Men Man Powder
This is an all-over powder that can be used anywhere and great for absorbing moisture, fighting odor, preventing chaffing, and providing relief from itching.
Man Powder is another talc-free formula made from corn starch, baking soda, tricalcium phosphate, aloe barbadensis, and fragrance (which is a light citrus scent). While I have not tried the product, I am a fan of the all-natural ingredient list. I think this is the only brand to use baking soda to control odor and aloe to soothe the skin.
Matte for Men Man Powder retails for $28 on Amazon; shipping is free for Amazon Prime members.
Snake Brand Prickly Heat
Snake Brand Prickly Heat is a product of Thailand, and the Thais no better than anyone about tropical heat and humidity. I’m actually going to be trying this product soon, so I will provide a second update.
Similar to the Gold Bond Medicated Powder, Prickly Heat too is an antiseptic and medicated powder. It’s key ingredients include menthol, camphor, triclocarban, perfume, kaolin, and talc. Menthol is for anti-itching and triclocarban is anti-bacterial ingredient.
While Prickly Heat is the name of the powder, Prickly Heat is also a skin condition that causes itchy inflammation of the skin, typically with a rash of small vesicle, common in hot moist weather.
Whether you have prickly heat (the skin condition), this is still an everyday, all over body powder that you can use, the medication in the formula will really help relieve skin irritation.
Snake Brand Prickly Heat retails for $10.95 on Amazon; shipping is free for Amazon Prime members.
Sween Body Powder
Sween Body Powder (formerly Fordustin) is probably not that well known to the mass market and is generally found in medical supply companies and in hospitals. However, for those who do know about it, generally rave about the quality of the product.
Like some of the other aforementioned powders, Sween Body Powder is a non-caking cornstarch based powder that can be used to absorb moisture, relieve itching, and prevent chaffing.
You will also find that Sween is quite popular among men who do manscaping around the pubic area; a little known secret is that you can use body powder as a dry lubricant when using a body groomer, so many men actually put this on their skin before they begin shaving.
Sween Body Powder retails for $7.34 on Amazon; shipping is free for Amazon Prime members.
